MINI PUNJAB, is one hospitality and restaurant brand that needs no introduction.
If you looking to enjoy authentic Punjabi food or looking at the new line of food with the modern international art of cooking, Mini Punjab has a sumptuous array to satiate every palate. You can enjoy a fine – dine experience at one of their restaurants in the city or seek their outdoor catering services to enhance your special event.
With the team now geared for action for outdoor catering services around the world, life is busy for the team and Rajinderpal Singh Putiani, a team member of the family-run and family-operated hospitality brand.
The brand name exudes the same warmth, friendliness, hospitality synonymous to the state and its people and probably sets them apart from the other famous Punjabi hospitality around the city. You will invariably always find a Mini Punjab loyalist in every family, or so says my happy heart.
Our visit to Mini Punjab Lake Side property was no different than the umpteen times we experienced before, but this time we were promised a more eclectic menu with a special infusion of modern ingredients to cater to the health-conscious foodies. Husband being one, we arrived with great expectations with our little one in tow…Jeehan is now all of 10 years so no more little, I must say.
Mini Punjab Lake Side is located in the heart of Powai so those who live in the western belt can head via the Versova-Ghatkopar metro which drives through the neighborhood or drive down towards Powai. Considering we bunch of lazy Bajajs (or at least that’s me), we drove into Powai. A good 30 minutes drive from home, we arrive at the bustling restaurant which had several well-groomed valets waiting to park the car. Greeted at the gate with the warm hospitality of the staff, we were escorted to our waiting table ( best to book in advance, you can call: +91 22 2401 2098 / 2401 5103 for reservation).
As popular and welcoming as the culture, the restaurant’s ambiance is warm, spacious and very comfortable seatings for couples and families alike. Even their choice of food has something for the Vegetarians, Non – Vegetarian and Sea Food lovers.
Cheers & More DRINKS–
With many refreshing drinks to choose from we were spoiled for choice, The husband selected a healthy delight from the array of drinks made up of grapefruit, lemon, orange, and mint. Besides the Beet Delight, Immune Booster and Heat Toner. Most enriched in vitamin, with a concoction of fruits and vegetables it makes for a heady drink to polish the meal off along with.
For the Lassi drinkers, the Kesar Pistawali Lassi is a complete meal in itself. Thick, delicious and loaded with dry fruits.
Me, I went in for my favourite Pineapple-Coconut Juice which is healthy and yummy in itself. A pure delight.
Starting something good . . . with the STARTERS–
Paneer Multani Tikka– My absolute FAVORITE. Paneer in beautiful silky creamy marination, grilled in tandoor to perfection. So wholesome.
Methi Veg Tikka– Healthy twist to Veg tikkas. LOVED it. Mildly spicy but delicious. Like all Tikkas, a bit dry, but went really well with accompanying mint dip/chutney.
Tandoori Fish – Oh God, if you love seafood, do NOT miss this! Fish cut and doused in curd concoction and grilled in tandoor. It is as yummy as it can get.
The MAIN COURSE–
Dal Makhani – the all-time favorite of the family. Slowly simmered kali daal, full of butter and cream and loads of Punjabi love, this is always a must-have, this dal at Punjab Grill is probably the most famous dish here. It goes well with everything, be it rice or roti and in fact it tastes so delicious on its own too. Can polish it off in itself.
Amritsari Chole – A must have dish, it is ultra-rich, loaded with proteins and yummy to the core…this is one of the many dishes available here that bring the home-cooked food taste. It is everything which makes for good food fantasy. A twist with the tempering makes it all the more awe-some to taste. ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT.
Malai Kofta– Soft Koftas filled with cottage cheese, dry fruits, cardamom, immersed in creamy saffron-y, fragrant gravy, garnished with pista. Another ROYAL classic. On sweeter side of course but not sugary at all.
—Butter Naan and Cheese Garlic Naan– Both were delicious, I personally like Butter Naan more but Jeehan liked the gooey – cheese along with garlic in his Naan, so it is about personal preference.
DESSERTS & More –
Gulab Jamun with Rabdi – These are my go-to sweethearts, to set the food inside to rest topped with the creamy concoction of Rabdi which douses the heady taste of the melt in the mouth gulab jamuns. Another combination which goes well with Rabdi is jalebi, but I like it this way.
They surely deliver what they promise and more…. With a north-west frontier food on our plate, we enjoyed the hospitality of Punjab in a food which spelled D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S with all its rich flavour and authentic taste.
Overall, had a beautiful meal here and will certainly come back for more!
